My Credentials

Here’s all the reason’s why you shouldn’t be using this blog as an advice column. Here’s also all the reasons why you should.

I began my involvement in FPL during the summer of 2013. Then there was four years of intense Gameweek 1 team setting, followed by Gameweek 3-4 of disinterested team shuffling, bookended by a static team because of course “I forgot my password, It’s definitely not because I’m coming dead last in the one public group I signed up for“.

In 2017, things changed. I somehow managed to convince a group of friends to join our own private league. That season I didn’t forget my password and was active every week. We are into our 3rd season now and I have already won once (This sounds like a brag but we have maybe 6 active players and a smattering of casuals/set-and-forgets).

In true Scorched Earth FPL fashion, I’m going to be very transparent with my FPL history. Here’s how I have fared in past seasons. I would make this a graph but then my first 4 years of shame would be made very clear (2016/17 was a bad year for me overall man, don’t judge) and I can’t handle that kind of embarassment right now please.

• 2013/14 – 1,139,558 (1974 pts)
• 2014/15 – 1,371,674 (1750 pts)
• 2015/16 – 1,186,012 (1907 pts)
• 2016/17 – 2,105,138 (1759 pts)
• 2017/18 – 448,057 (2108 pts)
• 2018/19 – 306,908 (2190 pts)
• 2019/20 – God knows, please let me be Top 200k

To help you further identify what kind of FPL player I am, here are list of things I remember doing over the past few of seasons, that serve as a microcosm to what kind of man you are listening (reading??) to.

• Got rid of Firmino, KDB and Sigurdsson just to get Mo Salah in. 2 hours before the start of the season.
• Took a -4 hit with a double transfer on GW37, only to lose the league and finish second by…. you guessed it…4 points.
• Kept Doucoure in my team for 2/3rds of a season because I liked his name. He scored 7 and assisted 4. Those were the good times.
• Ben Mee has always been my first draft pick (doesn’t always make it to GW1 though)
• Captained Salah when he scored 4 against Watford. This was when I peaked at FPL. I think like 80% of all FPL players captained him that week.
• Set-and-forgot Suarez and Sturridge. For 2014/15.
• Started 16/17 with KDB as my only premium MID, Pep started using him as a deep-lying playmaker. Transferred him out after bad returns, only for Pep to bring him forward again. Bald fraud.
• Triple-captained Salah at Man Utd to spite my Lukaku loving friend. Shaqiri scored to and Mo blanked.
• Took out FPL hero Laporte out to make space for Sane during a DGW. Laporte scored like 16 points, Sane got 3. Bald fraud strikes again.
• This isn’t the end, there will be blood more.
